How to scan a WiFi QR code

On most recent iPhones and Android phones, open the camera app, point it at the code and tap the WiFi notification that appears. Some Android phones use the QR scanner on the WiFi settings screen or Google Lens instead.

Tips for a code that works

  • The network name and password are case-sensitive. Type them exactly as they appear in your router settings.
  • Print the code and keep it where guests can see it, such as near the router.
  • If you change your WiFi password, make a new code.
  • Use WPA2 or WPA3 security on your router; an open network lets anyone nearby join.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to type my WiFi password here?

The QR code is created on your own device by the page's JavaScript; your details are not sent anywhere. Remember that anyone who can see the printed code can join your WiFi, so only share it with people you trust.

Which security type should I choose?

Choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for almost every modern router. WEP is outdated and insecure. Choose None only for open networks without a password.

Does it work with hidden networks?

Yes. Tick "Hidden network" so phones know to look for a network that does not broadcast its name.
