192.168.100.1 Login for Fiber ONTs and Modems
Not working? Check the label on the back or bottom of your router.
192.168.100.1 usually isn't your WiFi router at all. It is the box your ISP fixed to the wall. Huawei and ZTE fibre ONTs in Pakistan, Mexico, Kenya, Nepal and other countries use it as their management address, and cable modems in the United States answer on it with a status page. A 192.168.100.1 login lets you check the fibre or cable signal, read the event log and, on ONTs with built-in WiFi, change the network name and password. Here's how to get in and what the screens mean.

Default usernames and passwords
| Brand / model | Username | Password |
|---|---|---|
| Huawei HG8245H (older ISP installs, e.g. Totalplay) | root | admin |
| Newer Huawei / ZTE fibre ONTs | On the device label | On the device label |
| ARRIS SURFboard cable modems (e.g. SB8200) | admin | password, or the last 8 digits of the serial number |
| Virgin Media Hub in modem mode | Not used | Settings password on the hub sticker |
How to log in
- Connect to the ONT's own WiFi, or plug a laptop straight into one of its LAN ports.
- If your own router sits behind the ONT, connect directly to the ONT for now; cable modem users can usually stay on their router.
- Type 192.168.100.1 into the browser's address bar and press Enter.
- Log in using the credentials on the ONT's label; for older Huawei units try the defaults in the table.
- Open the Status or Device Information page to read the optical power or cable signal levels.
- Only change WiFi and admin settings; leave PON, VLAN and WAN settings to your ISP.

Change the default admin password as soon as you're in.
What sits at 192.168.100.1?
Two kinds of device commonly claim this private address. A fibre ONT (optical network terminal) turns the light in the fibre into ordinary Ethernet. Some ONTs are plain bridges with one port; many ISPs install combined units that also route and broadcast WiFi, so the ONT doubles as your home router.
A cable modem does the same job on coaxial cable. Cable modems keep 192.168.100.1 for a built-in diagnostics page, and because the modem watches for that address, you can usually open it even through a separate router. Virgin Media Hubs switch to this address when set to modem mode.
Who uses 192.168.100.1
- Pakistan: Huawei and ZTE GPON ONTs installed by fibre providers. Our fibre ONT guide and the Pakistan hub cover the local models.
- Mexico: Totalplay modems, from older Huawei HG8245H units to newer WiFi 6 models.
- Indonesia: some Biznet installations with Huawei ONTs.
- Saudi Arabia: some STC fibre installations.
- Kenya, Nepal, Côte d'Ivoire, Algeria and Uzbekistan: search interest is high wherever Huawei and ZTE GPON equipment is widely deployed.
- United States and UK: ARRIS and Motorola cable modems, plus Virgin Media Hubs in modem mode.
Read the status page like a technician
Fibre ONT
Look for "Optical Information" or "PON Information". The key number is received (Rx) optical power in dBm. Most GPON equipment works between roughly -8 and -27 dBm; a reading drifting toward the bottom of that window usually points to a dirty connector or a tightly bent fibre. Note it before you call support, as it saves the technician a trip.
Cable modem
The connection page lists each downstream and upstream channel. Healthy lines typically show downstream power near 0 dBmV (roughly -7 to +7), an SNR above about 33 dB and few "uncorrectable" errors. The event log records dropouts with timestamps, which is useful evidence if your connection keeps falling over.
Reaching the ONT when a router sits in front of it
Your computer only reports the first device it talks to. If a TP-Link, mesh system or other router is plugged into the ONT, ipconfig on Windows or the Router field on a phone shows that router's address, not 192.168.100.1. Two ways around it:
- Run
tracert -d 8.8.8.8on Windows (traceroute -n 8.8.8.8on Mac). The second hop is often the ONT's address. - Plug a laptop directly into a spare LAN port on the ONT and check its gateway there.
You can also ask the Router Finder which address your ISP normally uses.
192.168.100.1 login not responding? Common causes
The ONT is a pure bridge
Some ISPs disable the local web page on bridge-mode ONTs. In that case only the ISP can manage it remotely, and your own router is where you change WiFi.
Your router uses the same range
If your own router hands out 192.168.100.x addresses, it clashes with the ONT. Move your router's LAN to another range, such as 192.168.2.1.
The login is refused
Many ISPs replace the factory login with their own, or keep the full admin account for technicians and give customers a basic user account. The label on the device is the best guide; otherwise ask your ISP for the customer login.
SURFboard asks for a password you don't know
ARRIS says the admin login needs recent firmware; the password is "password" or the last eight digits of the serial number on the bottom label.
Changing WiFi on a fibre ONT
If the ONT is also your WiFi router, open the WLAN menu. Huawei units usually list 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz separately, so change the SSID and WPA key on both, choose WPA2-PSK with AES, and apply. Be aware that ISPs can push settings to ONTs remotely (through TR-069), and a provisioning refresh may occasionally reset a change; if your new WiFi name reverts, ask the ISP to lock in your settings. A QR code of the new network helps everyone reconnect.
Safe habits with ISP equipment
- Don't factory-reset an ONT without talking to your ISP first. A reset can wipe the provisioning that registers it on the fibre network, which could mean a technician visit.
- Never change LOID, PON password, VLAN or WAN settings unless the ISP tells you to.
- Do change the WiFi key from the printed default, and keep the fibre patch cable loosely coiled, never folded.
Typed 192.168.l00.1?
Watch for the letter l in place of 1 (192.168.l00.1), a missing dot (192.168.1001) or a dropped zero. That last one lands you on 192.168.10.1, a different address entirely. The IP Typo Fixer sorts all of these out.

Frequently asked questions
Why does 192.168.100.1 open when my router is 192.168.1.1?
Your cable modem or ONT has its own management address, and traffic to it passes through your router. That is normal and lets you check the line without unplugging anything.
What is the default password for a Huawei ONT at 192.168.100.1?
Older HG8245H units commonly used root and admin. Newer Huawei ONTs and most ISP-branded ones print their own login on the label. If neither works, ask your ISP.
Can I turn off the WiFi on my ONT and use my own router?
Usually yes. Disable the WLAN on the ONT, connect your router's WAN port to an ONT LAN port, and set the router up. For a cleaner setup, ask the ISP to switch the ONT to bridge mode.
What does a red LOS light on my ONT mean?
LOS means loss of signal: no light is reaching the ONT. Check that the green fibre connector is firmly seated and the cable isn't bent, then contact your ISP. No setting on the 192.168.100.1 page can fix it.
Is it safe to reset my ONT?
A simple restart is safe. A factory reset can remove your ISP's configuration, so call support before pressing the reset button.
Why do I see a status page but no settings?
Cable modems usually only offer status and logs because your router handles the network. On ONTs, a customer-level account may hide advanced menus.
