192.168.2.1 Router Login Guide
Not working? Check the label on the back or bottom of your router.
192.168.2.1 is the default gateway on Deutsche Telekom's Speedport routers in Germany, Bell's Home Hub modems in Canada, Elecom routers in Japan and many older Belkin, SMC and Edimax models. It is also the address people often give a second router so it doesn't collide with an ISP box on 192.168.1.1. This 192.168.2.1 login guide shows where each brand prints its password, how to sign in, and how to untangle the double-router confusion that often comes with this address.

Default usernames and passwords
| Brand / model | Username | Password |
|---|---|---|
| Telekom Speedport (also speedport.ip) | Not used | Gerätepasswort on the type label or WLAN device pass |
| Bell Home Hub 3000 (also bell.ca/mymodem) | Not used | Serial number from the sticker on the back (default) |
| Elecom (Japan) | admin | On the setup sheet or the device label |
How to log in
- Get on the router's WiFi, or use an Ethernet cable in any LAN socket.
- Enter 192.168.2.1 in the address bar. Speedport owners can type speedport.ip, Bell customers bell.ca/mymodem.
- Find the password: Speedport's Gerätepasswort on the type plate, the Bell Home Hub's serial number on the back sticker, or Elecom's on the setup sheet.
- Sign in, and set your own password if the router prompts you.
- Go to WiFi or WLAN to change the network name or key, then save.

Change the default admin password as soon as you're in.
What is 192.168.2.1?
192.168.2.1 is a private address and the first host of the 192.168.2.x network. That makes it a different network from 192.168.1.x: a laptop on 192.168.1.20 and a printer on 192.168.2.20 can't talk to each other directly unless a router sits between them. This separation is the whole reason the address is popular for second routers, and the cause of most confusion when a page refuses to load. Our Subnet Calculator shows where one /24 network ends and the next begins.
Who ships routers on 192.168.2.1
- Germany: Deutsche Telekom's Speedport family, reachable at speedport.ip.
- Canada: Bell's Home Hub series.
- Japan: Elecom WiFi routers. Japanese homes also see Buffalo on 192.168.11.1 and NEC Aterm on 192.168.10.1.
- Greece: search interest is consistently high; the label on your ISP router will confirm whether it uses this address.
- Mexico: some Izzi Arris modems, alongside 192.168.0.1.
- Older retail routers: Belkin, SMC and Edimax models from earlier generations.
Speedport: speedport.ip and the Gerätepasswort
Telekom's instructions are simple: open http://speedport.ip or 192.168.2.1 while connected to the Speedport. The login asks for the Gerätepasswort (device password). Unless you changed it, it matches the value on the type label (Typenschild) on the router or in the WLAN device pass (WLAN-Gerätepass) that came with it.
Don't confuse it with two other secrets: the WLAN key (WLAN-Schlüssel), which phones use to join the WiFi, and your Telekom internet access data (Zugangsdaten), which the router uses to connect to Telekom. Each one is separate.
Bell Home Hub: the serial number is the password
Bell tells Home Hub 3000 owners to browse to 192.168.2.1 or bell.ca/mymodem. The default administrator password is the hub's serial number, printed on the sticker on the back. Bell then lets you set your own password. On the Home Hub 4000 and Giga Hub, Bell also offers a password recovery option, so set it up while you are signed in; it saves a factory reset later.
Running a second router on 192.168.2.1
A common setup: the ISP's modem stays on 192.168.1.1 and you connect your own router's WAN (internet) port to one of its LAN ports. Give your router 192.168.2.1 as its LAN address and the two will never clash. The catch is double NAT: traffic passes through two routers. Browsing and streaming don't mind, but online games, VPN servers and port forwarding can. If you run into that, choose one of these:
- Put the ISP device in bridge mode, so only your router does routing.
- Switch your router to access point mode and let the ISP device handle addresses.
- Keep double NAT, but place your router in the ISP device's DMZ.
Look up the gateway your device is using
On Windows, open Command Prompt and run ipconfig. On a Mac, open System Settings, Network, Wi-Fi, Details, TCP/IP. On iPhone, tap the (i) next to your WiFi network; on Android, open the network's details. If you expected 192.168.2.1 but the gateway reads 192.168.1.1, you are connected to the ISP modem, not your second router. Switch WiFi networks or move your cable.
192.168.2.1 login trouble and fixes
speedport.ip won't load
The name resolves only on the Speedport's own network. Use 192.168.2.1 directly, preferably over a cable, and make sure no VPN app is running.
Password rejected
On a Speedport, check you aren't typing the WLAN key instead of the Gerätepasswort. On a Bell hub, read the serial number carefully; the letter O and the number 0 are easy to mix up. If the password was changed and lost, a factory reset restores the default.
Phone on mobile data
Turn mobile data off for a moment; a router with no internet makes phones switch away from WiFi.
Safer settings
- Change the default device password and keep the printed card somewhere private.
- Use WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode or WPA3 where all devices support it.
- Leave automatic firmware updates on.
- Give guests the guest WiFi and turn off remote access you don't use.

Frequently asked questions
What is speedport.ip?
It is the local name Telekom gives the Speedport's settings page. While connected to the Speedport, it opens the same page as 192.168.2.1.
What is the default Bell Home Hub password?
For the Home Hub 3000, Bell says the default administrator password is the serial number printed on the sticker on the back of the modem.
Is 192.168.2.1 the same network as 192.168.1.1?
No. They are separate /24 networks. Devices on one can only reach the other through a router, which is why the address is handy for a second router.
Is double NAT bad?
For everyday browsing it is harmless. It can cause trouble with gaming, VPN servers and port forwarding; bridge mode or access point mode avoids it.
Where do I find the Elecom router password?
Elecom prints it on the setup sheet that comes in the box and on the router's label. The username is admin.
The label is gone. How do I log in?
If you never changed the password, the manufacturer or your ISP can sometimes help. Otherwise, a factory reset with the reset pinhole restores the defaults; for ISP equipment, check with the provider first.
