192.168.10.1 Login: PTCL, Aterm and Others

192.168.10.1

Not working? Check the label on the back or bottom of your router.

192.168.10.1 is a less common gateway, but for two groups of people it is the one that matters: PTCL broadband customers in Pakistan, whose newer modems use it, and owners of NEC Aterm routers in Japan, where it is the factory address behind the aterm.me shortcut. The 192.168.10.1 login page is where you change the WiFi password, check connected devices and restart the line. Below are the steps for both, the default usernames, and fixes for the problems people report most.

How to log in

  1. Join the modem's WiFi from a phone or laptop, or plug into one of its LAN ports.
  2. Type 192.168.10.1 in the browser's address bar; Aterm owners can type aterm.me instead.
  3. Enter admin as the username.
  4. Enter the password: on PTCL modems, admin unless it was changed or the sticker says otherwise; on Aterm, the one you created during setup.
  5. Open the WLAN or wireless settings to change the network name and key.
  6. Apply the changes, wait for WiFi to restart, and reconnect with the new key.

What is 192.168.10.1?

It is the first host address of 192.168.10.0/24, one of the 256 small networks inside the private 192.168.0.0/16 block. Manufacturers and ISPs sometimes pick the .10 network precisely because it is less crowded than 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x, which reduces clashes when customers plug in a second router or a range extender. The address only answers inside your home; your public address is different and you can see it with What Is My IP.

PTCL broadband: 192.168.10.1 or 192.168.1.1?

PTCL has supplied different modems over the years. Many older DSL units sit on 192.168.1.1, while newer modems use 192.168.10.1. Rather than guess, check the gateway (see below) and use whichever your device reports. Local guides widely report admin as both the username and password on PTCL-supplied modems; if that fails, the sticker on the back or the modem's box may carry the current details. Our PTCL guide has model-specific notes, and the Pakistan hub covers other networks: StormFiber on 192.168.1.1, Zong 4G devices on 192.168.8.1 and fibre ONTs on 192.168.100.1.

After a power cut

When the electricity returns, the modem needs a few minutes to resync the line. If the DSL or internet light stays off after five minutes, restart the modem once; if it still stays off, the fault is on the line and needs a complaint to PTCL. Running the modem from a UPS keeps the connection up through short outages.

Changing the PTCL WiFi password

Menu names differ by model, but the path is often Network or Interface Setup, then WLAN or Wireless, then Security. Choose WPA2-PSK, type the new passphrase, save, and reconnect your phones.

NEC Aterm in Japan

NEC Platforms' Aterm routers open their Quick Setup Web (クイック設定Web) at http://aterm.me/ or the factory address http://192.168.10.1/. Sign in as admin (all lowercase); the password is whatever administrator password you chose on your first visit.

This only applies while the Aterm works in router mode. If it is set as a bridge or access point behind your ISP's home gateway, it takes an address from that gateway, and 192.168.10.1 stops answering. Use aterm.me, or look for the Aterm in the gateway's list of connected devices.

Other places 192.168.10.1 turns up

Search interest is also notable in Lebanon and Ecuador, where some locally supplied routers use the .10 network, and you will meet it on certain travel routers, range extenders and networks configured by an IT person who wanted to avoid the common ranges. In all these cases the label or the person who installed it is the best source for the password.

Check your gateway before you blame the password

  1. Windows 11: Settings, Network & internet, Advanced network settings, Hardware and connection properties. Read Default gateway.
  2. Android: long-press WiFi in quick settings, tap your network and open its details.
  3. iPhone: Settings, Wi-Fi, then the (i) beside the network; look for Router.
  4. Mac: hold Option while clicking the Wi-Fi menu-bar icon; Router appears in the list.

The Router Finder can also suggest the right address for your ISP.

192.168.10.1 login problems

The page doesn't open

Mobile data might be active, or your modem might use 192.168.1.1 instead. Turn data off, confirm the gateway and try again from a different browser.

admin/admin is rejected

A technician or family member may have changed it. A factory reset (hold the reset pinhole for about 10 seconds while powered) restores the defaults, but on PTCL it also clears the broadband username and password stored in the modem. Have those details from PTCL ready before resetting, or you will be without internet.

Aterm password forgotten

Aterm has no master password. You have to initialise the router with its reset button and run setup again, choosing a new administrator password.

The login page appears blank

Older modem firmware sometimes fails in newer browsers. Try another browser or clear the cache.

Keep your PTCL or Aterm network private

  • Change admin/admin to a password only your household knows.
  • Use WPA2-PSK with AES, never WEP.
  • Open the connected-devices or DHCP client list now and then and look for names you don't recognise.
  • Switch off WPS, and change the WiFi key if it has been shared widely. A QR code makes sharing the new one easier.

Typed 192.168.l0.1?

Watch for 192.168.l0.1 with a letter l, 192.168.10.l, or 192.168.101 with a dot missing. That last one is close to 192.168.101.1, which is a different gateway. Run it through the IP Typo Fixer before trying again.

Frequently asked questions

What is the PTCL modem default password?

On PTCL-supplied modems, admin is widely reported as both the username and password. If it has been changed, check the sticker or reset the modem with your broadband login details at hand.

Why won't 192.168.10.1 open on my PTCL connection?

Your modem is probably an older model on 192.168.1.1. Check the default gateway on your device and use that address.

How can I see who is using my PTCL WiFi?

Log in and open the DHCP client list or wireless station list. If you spot unknown devices, change the WiFi passphrase.

What is aterm.me?

It is NEC's shortcut name for the Aterm settings page. While you are connected to the Aterm, it leads to the same page as 192.168.10.1.

I reset my PTCL modem and lost internet. What now?

The reset erased your broadband account details. Re-enter the PPPoE username and password PTCL gave you in the WAN or Internet settings, or contact PTCL support for them.

Can I set my own router to 192.168.10.1?

Yes. Using a less common range like this is a good way to avoid conflicts with an ISP modem on 192.168.1.1. Change it in your router's LAN settings.
