192.168.31.1 Login for Xiaomi and Redmi Routers

Not working? Check the label on the back or bottom of your router.

192.168.31.1 is the admin address used by Xiaomi and Redmi WiFi routers. The same page also answers to router.miwifi.com (older units: miwifi.com). To log in, join the router's WiFi, open either address in a browser and enter the admin password. If you never set a separate admin password, it is the same as your WiFi password, which is how Xiaomi designs it. A brand-new router has no admin password at all; it greets you with a setup page where you create one.

Below: first-time setup, everyday login, recovery when the password is lost, and the fixes for a page that will not open.

Why Xiaomi uses 192.168.31.1

Every router needs a private address that devices use to reach its settings. Xiaomi chose the 192.168.31.x range for its whole router line, so a Xiaomi router can sit behind an ISP modem on 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 without the two fighting over the same address. The friendly name router.miwifi.com is resolved by the router itself and simply points to 192.168.31.1.

First-time setup in six steps

  1. Plug the internet cable from your modem or wall socket into the router's WAN port.
  2. Power on and wait for the system light to turn blue.
  3. Join the default WiFi network. Its name is printed on the bottom and it has no password yet.
  4. The setup page usually opens by itself. If not, go to 192.168.31.1.
  5. Enter the broadband username and password from your ISP if your connection uses them (PPPoE); otherwise continue.
  6. Create a WiFi password and an admin password. You may use the same one for both, but a separate admin password is safer.

Find the router address on any device

If 192.168.31.1 does not answer, your router may be in a different mode or someone changed its range. Ask your device:

  • Windows: Settings > Network & internet > WiFi > your network's properties, or ipconfig > Default Gateway.
  • Android: tap the connected WiFi network and open its details; look for Gateway.
  • iPhone: Settings > Wi-Fi > (i) > Router.
  • Mac: in Terminal, run route get default and read the gateway line.

Common problems and fixes

  • The page loads in Chinese. Units made for mainland China may only offer a Chinese interface. Your browser's translate button helps, and global versions show English.
  • miwifi.com opens a website instead of the router. You are not connected to the Xiaomi router, or your phone switched to mobile data.
  • Router is in repeater or access-point mode. In these modes the upstream router hands out addresses, so 192.168.31.1 may not respond. Check the gateway, or look the router up in your main router's device list.
  • Password not accepted. Try the WiFi password. If neither works, reset the router.

Forgot the admin password?

First try your WiFi password; Xiaomi confirms the two match unless the admin password was changed separately. If that fails, press and hold the RESET button with a pin while the router is on until the indicator changes, then release and wait for it to restart. Everything is erased, and you go through the six setup steps again.

Change the WiFi name and password

  1. Log in at 192.168.31.1.
  2. Open the WiFi or WiFi settings tab.
  3. Edit the name and password for each band, or, on models that offer it, merge both bands into a single network.
  4. Choose WPA2 or WPA3 (mixed mode if older devices must connect).
  5. Save and reconnect your devices.

Xiaomi's phone app (Mi WiFi or Xiaomi Home, depending on the model) can make the same changes remotely.

Lock it down

  • Use a separate admin password rather than reusing the WiFi key.
  • Keep firmware up to date from the settings page or app.
  • Use the guest network for visitors and cheap smart plugs.
  • Disable WPS and any remote management you are not using.

Typed it wrong?

Watch out for 192.168.3.11, 192.168.311 or 192.168.31.l. These look right at a glance but never reach the router. The IP Typo Fixer straightens them out.
