BSNL router login is a little different from other Indian ISPs because BSNL Bharat Fiber connections use fibre boxes (ONTs) from several manufacturers, often supplied by the local partner who installed your line. The good news: almost all of them open at http://192.168.1.1. Connect to your BSNL WiFi, type that address, and sign in with the username and password printed on the sticker of your ONT. A BSNL FTTH user manual published for subscribers uses exactly this address and walks through the WLAN menu shown below.

Here is how to log in, change the WiFi password, check who is connected and reset the box without losing your connection for days.

How to log in

  1. Connect your phone or laptop to the BSNL WiFi, or use a LAN cable from the ONT. Switch off mobile data.
  2. Open a browser and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
  3. Read the sticker under or behind the ONT for the username and password. Depending on the brand it may say admin or user.
  4. Enter those details and click Login.
  5. If 192.168.1.1 does not load, your ONT may use another address such as 192.168.100.1. Check the sticker or your device's gateway address.

Not working? Check the label on the back or bottom of your router.

How to change the WiFi password

  1. Log in to the ONT at 192.168.1.1.
  2. Open the WLAN or Wireless section. On many BSNL ONTs it sits under Internet > WLAN or Network > WLAN.
  3. Go to Security or Advanced and find the field called Pre-Shared Key, WPA Passphrase or Password.
  4. Choose WPA2-PSK, type the new password (at least 8 characters) and click Save/Apply.
  5. Reconnect all devices with the new password.
How to change the BSNL Bharat Fiber WiFi password

Change the default admin password as soon as you're in.

Why BSNL router login details differ from house to house

BSNL sells Bharat Fiber nationwide, but the ONT in your home depends on your circle and the local partner who laid the cable. That is why one neighbour logs in as admin while another uses user. The address stays mostly the same, so start with the 192.168.1.1 login page. Fibre boxes that use 192.168.100.1 are covered in our 192.168.100.1 guide.

The sticker is your source of truth. It normally lists the model, the default WiFi name, the WiFi key and the web login. Take a photo of it before mounting the box on a wall.

Older BSNL copper broadband modems

If you still have a BSNL ADSL modem on a telephone line, the login works the same way: 192.168.1.1 in the browser and the details from the modem label. The WiFi settings usually sit under Wireless or WLAN, and the internet username and password in the WAN or PPPoE section are your BSNL account details. Do not change those unless BSNL asks you to; a typing mistake there takes the whole connection down.

Check devices connected to your BSNL WiFi

Look for a status page called Device Info, LAN Status, WLAN Station or DHCP Clients. It lists each connected device with its MAC address and local IP. If you see more entries than you own, change the WiFi password at once and keep WPS switched off.

Reset a BSNL ONT safely

A restart (power off 30 seconds, power on) fixes most slowdowns. A factory reset, done by holding the reset pin-hole for about 10 seconds, is different: it can erase the internet (PPPoE or VLAN) settings your partner configured, leaving the LOS or internet light off until someone sets it up again. Before resetting, note the internet settings if you can see them, or call your partner first and ask whether they can reconfigure it remotely.

Contacting BSNL

For line faults, slow speed or a lost login, book a complaint through the BSNL Selfcare app or the official bsnl.co.in website. Many Bharat Fiber users get quicker help from the local partner whose details are on the installation receipt.

Safety tips for BSNL users

  • Change the default web login password after your first BSNL router login, if your ONT allows it.
  • Use WPA2-PSK with AES and a password of 12 or more characters.
  • Turn off WPS and remote management unless you need them.
  • Do not share the ONT admin password with anyone except your installer.
